HIRYUU!!! He feels pretty comfortable with Hiryuu because they're very similar and very on the same wavelength but also different enough! She reminds him a lot of Towa even though he doesn't remember that. Tiny fierce girl who supports everyone and is genuinely sweet and kind and does so much??
Hiryuu is different to Towa in a lot of ways too, and again since he doesn't remember Towa he's just forming his own admiration/friendship with Hiryuu not really colored by anything but the fact that she's herself! And he admires that!
Sometimes he thinks she's a little too intense? But he likes intense people. He himself is so mellow and laid-back most of the time when he doesn't have THING TO DO that high energy is pretty refreshing. It's not that he doesn't also NEED TO ACTION for his own mental sanity but they have different ways and approaches. He finds her perspectives valuable even when he doesn't agree, and he likes that they can just have a conversation about feelings and beliefs, lay it out there, and discuss things. He thrives on just talking and absorbing other perspectives, even ones he doesn't agree with.
For the most part they do seem to agree really fundamentally though.
He is worried about her? The whole team mediator thing seems exhausting and she's got a lot on her plate. So he's definitely like, girl, take a break, delegate, sit down and eat a cookie?? Someone needs to fuss over her like she fusses over everyone else, but he doesn't know if HSS is doing that or not so he's not going to presume she doesn't get that or anything. Just fret?
Her initial impressions of Phoenix were that he was a cute younger-brother type, shy and uncertain of himself. He seemed a little overwhelmed, and she was worried that if he didn't find his own two feet he might founder a bit. She doesn't really have anyone close to her in canon that's very like him, so it's kind of a new relationship type? Which is interesting for me because NEW THINGS!!
Subsequent interactions have had her reevaluating those impressions, or rather... fine-tuning them. Obviously he really does have some confidence / self-image issues, but actually when he talks about himself he's quite assertive of his opinions/thoughts/feelings. He's also able to take the things you say and twist them against you to punch you in the feels, which isn't something she's necessarily very familiar with being on the receiving end, so it's kind of refreshing for me to see her get bullied some a little in return.
Fundamentally, they do get along, but Hiryuu is fairly certain that she is a worse person than him by far, what with their current conversation. Not that she's pro MURDER DEFENSELESS PEOPLE because obviously that's not the case. Buuuuuttt her self-esteem is always shaky at best and she very easily sees the worst in herself and she believes that if it had been her in that situation, she would have done whatever it took to keep those men from taking/hurting her precious people. It's actually really hard to say what she would do definitively, it's very Circumstances Dependent, but you know. But she's very much of the thought that sometimes you just have to Kill a Bad Person, and she also leans further to the side that you just shouldn't necessarily feel bad for that, even if that person also has loved ones. :/ shruuuuggo
Anyway, part of why she wants him to be her advisor is because she thinks that he's a better person than her, and since she's afraid to ask Hak for mmmmuch of anything at this point, she's just floundering around for someone to keep her on the Right Path, whatever it is, and sort of sees Phoenix as that possible moral pillar.
He's really right to be worried about her, not even necessarily because of the mediator thing although that is PART of it, but she needs a timeout and a cookie and maybe a good cry? The more she looks and pokes, the more it seems like things are either on fire or about to become on fire. So more people to sit on her and force her to do that would not be a bad thing.
Someday I want the two of them to join forces to destroy everyone with platonic flirting/compliments/dere. I think there would be pretty much nothing left, especially if she used buddy bond.
