Honestly he loves his whole unit but Sanguine is probably the person he's closest to one Bad End right now, thanks trauma! He worries about Sanguine a lot though, because Sanguine has a tendency to take a lot on himself and never try to get help and internalize everything and Phoenix finds that all really frustrating. He appreciates when Sanguine is there for him, both to cuddle and talk to! And he wishes Sanguine didn't seem so allergic to sharing his own problems.
He does appreciate when Sanguine talks to him about his problems or lets him be there to keep him company, but it bothers him that Sanguine's base response to all negative feelings as far as Phoenix can tell is to run away and hide, as if that doesn't worry his unit MORE than just talking to them.
He's oblivious to Sanguine's feelings for him, but he does feel very close to Sanguine. Bad End is like family to Phoenix and Falcom loves adoption incest aside, it means when H said he might be into Sanguine his initial response was both like, super happy for both of them, kind of jealous of both of them, and also like, protective brother for Sanguine. ANYONE WHO HURTS HIS FAMILY WILL BE MURDERED. Not murdered but definitely Rean is a protective type of brother, and it's important to him that his family and friends are happy and treated well. Not that he thinks H will be anything less than good with Sanguine, it's just a kneejerk wanting to protect Sanguine feeling.
He thinks Sanguine is probably the person on the team most on his own level in terms of how to play games, too. Though more self-sacrificial than Phoenix himself is, which again, worrying, he does think Sanguine and he agree on the basic principle of play soft or even against themselves, since prisoner's dilemma, though he suspects they see it from slightly different angles.
He really wants to get back to a happy place so he and Sanguine can jam with Nemesis and things can be less stressful for everyone all the time.
Like honestly, even if he didn't have romantic feelings for Phoenix he'd love the hell out of Phoenix. He's so earnest and caring and open in a way that Sanguine finds refreshing-- Phoenix can call it nosiness all he wants, but he admires and respects it. He knows that Phoenix has things he doesn't talk about, and he wants to find a way to gently encourage him to-- he feels like Phoenix gives so much himself, and he wants to answer that in kind.
He couldn't honestly tell anyone when he started to fall for Phoenix-- was it during Betrayal? Possibly even before? He really doesn't know. But the house definitely bonded the two through trauma, and anything that existed before then increased a thousand fold. And if you tried to ask him why, he could happily sit there all day and tell anyone all the many ways he thinks Phoenix is wonderful.
Which isn't to say he thinks Phoenix is perfect-- he did get annoyed and frustrated during the poison game, but he also (once he got some sleep) understood that maybe Phoenix had a point, too. He realizes maybe it was selfish in its own way to want to be the one protecting everyone, as if survivor's guilt weren't a thing for them. He's still going to talk to him about being frustrated at the multi-person pileup, but also try and temper that with the knowledge that they weren't being malicious.
Sanguine would tend to agree that Phoenix is the person most aligned with his thinking on how to play games-- though he thinks Phoenix is likelier to be more intelligent about it. Sanguine doesn't try to be impulsive, but he thinks of things in different ways than Phoenix does. And that's fine too.
Sanguine vaguely worries that he might have put pressure on Phoenix by confessing to him, but he feels relieved too-- he knew that Phoenix would be gentle even if he'd rejected him, and that he didn't and even somehow feels the same way too is more amazing and precious than he could have imagined. He hopes that Phoenix is able to talk with H and E successfully and maybe they'll get to date (let's be real, E is the only one he's concerned about that), but even if they don't.... he can be happy, he thinks, knowing that Phoenix cares about him too.
idk if you're still accepting question meme questions, but if you are-- would you say that Phoenix's perspective changed any with that confession?
Persephone is so soft and fun to bully in the morning it turns out!
I don't know if he's had much more deep feelings on Persephone but he does like Persephone and wants to know him more. He's kind of concerned about the marriage thing that he still doesn't know is bad and he's deeply concerned about how sensitiv is doing because they seem to be handling betrayal the opposite of how Bad End is which is like, bad, probably.
He wants to be Persephone's friend in a way Persephone is comfortable with. He wants to be someone Persephone can rely on, but at the same time he finds Persephone very mysterious and is still deciding if he should try to pry or just let Persephone open up to him more if he ever wants to.
Either way he enjoys his company and he enjoys the faces he makes when bullied and tired, but he doesn't ever want to push Persephone to true discomfort. He sees Persephone as a very private individual who, while kind, deserves to have his space respected. Not that it'll stop him from wanting to play with his hair or ruffle him when he's sleepy, but you know.
Phoenix in general kind of confuses Persephone, especially because "friendship" in general is still a very confusing and nebulous ground for him (since Bride never really had friends). Relying on people is like ?????, too, since he's getting the impression from his memories that he was a very solitary person. He still doesn't trust him and probably never will, but that's like...entirely separate from how Persephone deals with people since he doesn't really like trust most people anyway?
He does like being around him though, and it's usually relaxing. And he would appreciate having his space respected.
Abi! He really likes Abi, Abi was one of the first people he met that was new when he was also new and is generally a soft gentle kind person, so not only does he related to Abi in the we were newbies together, he sees him as a good guy. Abi always seems to want to be helpful too, even if he's obviously awkward with his words, and while he doesn't want to push Abi or anything, he does wish Abi had an easier time expressing himself?
Not to say he doesn't like the calm stoic thing either, it's relaxing to be around and Abi is really soothing.
Silk he needs to get to know better. The thing about him vs Bad End is he's real aware most of them are super individualistic types and while he super respects and likes all his team he also is like, actually a little awkward an unsure about getting too up in anyone's business right off. Part of this is how he himself was introduced to the team in a kind of hands off "here's the run down go do your thing I guess" way, so he just tries to extend the same like "here's what we know and where we are and let you form your own opinion by interacting with this place" distance to newbies. Now that she's been around a while he'll feel more comfortable getting in her space if she seems comfortable with him in it. He definitely wants her to cuddle more and he really enjoyed cooking with her, so in general his opinion of her is that she's easy to do things with and a nice person but somewhat mysterious!!
The Mystery is mostly that he hasn't been nosy at her because he's not sure she'd be up for it.
Boss! He likes Boss a lot and he's real obsessed with him after murder house. Very protective, mildly yan, would scream a lot if Boss died in front of him. That said, Boss's amount of paranoia and cynicism worries him. He realizes it comes from a totally understandable place, but he also realizes that that's a place anyone in Imeeji could hit with how things are going, so it's not just a worry for Boss as like an acknowledgement of what could be a trend for the whole community over time.
Phoenix is not someone who tries to impose his ideals or ideas on anyone else, either, so while he finds the cynicism upsetting, he isn't sure he can comment on it entirely. He'd like to convince Boss to have more optimism in people, but he also knows that sometimes that optimism will be hurt, and not everyone can deal with betrayal by going "fuck you I believe in you ANYWAY" like Phoenix does.
The whole overriding memories thing also really freaks him out because again, he is very against imposing his will or beliefs on someone, and if forcibly editing someone's own memories isn't imposing your will on them in the most horrific way he can think of than he doesn't know what is. It's one or twp steps removed from mind control which is a thing he's real not into.
So his feelings on Boss right now are like, he loves him, deeply, he absolutely sees him as family, but he will also absolutely oppose him if he decides to use that ability on anyone. And he's afraid of having to do that so he is really hoping that's not going to be an issue. Not afraid of Boss, but just, how it would affect their relationship to get in a real fight about it.
He trusts Boss's opinions and values having his respect and he trusts Boss back so he doesn't want to lose that on either side.
Honestly he's worried as fuck about Anubis and is really glad whenever 99 invites him over. He knows it probably doesn't help Anubis's own unit feelings to have cuddles rubbed in his face but since he can't personally ~heal sensitIV~ he can at least be very cuddly and friendly when Anubis is over.
Beyond being worried about him though he really does deeply LIKE Anubis as a person. He's easy to talk to, thoughtful and good-humored. He's not mean or sharp, and he's intelligent. He's not hard to get along with at all, basically, and Phoenix respects him a great deal both for being kind and being willing to be honest, at least with Phoenix.
He does wish he could help more with what Anubis and sensitIV are going through, but he's glad 99 is also there for Anubis to bully. He would absolutely 100% help Anubis bully 99 every day any day, whether with affection or pranks.
Basically he's always happy to see Anubis and thinks he should probably give him more hugs.
